Neil O’Brien, MP for Harborough, Oadby and Wigston, recently joined volunteers of the ‘South Leicestershire Litter Wombles’ for a litter-picking session in South Wigston.
The group was established last year by Bob Lee, and is active across South Leicestershire, covering parts of Harborough, Blaby and Oadby & Wigston.
Neil said, “I would like to thank all of their amazing volunteers for everything they’re doing to keep our areas looking nice. It’s disappointing that some people still feel the need to throw litter to begin with, which is something local Council’s are seeking to clamp down on, but the effort of the Wombles to tackle this also is brilliant.
I’d encourage anyone who is interested in helping the wombles to join their facebook group, where details of upcoming sessions will be shared.”
Bob Lee said, “It started with me going out with a few bags and borrowed litter picker, and we now have an active group with over 750 members. We’ve held picks across South Leicestershire, covering parks, villages, town centres and country lanes. Many villages have also set up their own groups, so please do get in touch via our facebook group if you’d be interested in getting involved.”
